Perge returns to history as a Pamphylian Greek city, and with Pamphylia came under successive rule by Persians, Athenians, and Persians again. Alexander the Great, after quitting Phaselis, occupied Perge with a part of his army. The road between these two towns is described as long and difficult. Alexander's rule was followed by the Diadochi empire of the Seleucids, then the Romans.

Perge gained renown for the worship of Artemis, whose temple stood on a hill outside the town, and in whose honour annual festivals were celebrated. The coins of Perge represent both the goddess and her temple.

Some scholars associate the city's name with "Azatiwadaya". The known city of that name was founded by Azatiwada of Quwê on his eastern frontier, at Karatepe.[3] According to later tradition, Aspendos was founded rather earlier by Greeks who may have come from Argos.

The fact that the city continued to mint coins in its own name, however, indicates that

However, it is also said that Side, one of the oldest settlements in Anatolia, was founded before the 7th century BC. Side went through the same stages with other Pamphylian cities during the Anatolian history. The Greeks came to Side during the migrations of the 7th century BC. According to the available inscriptions, they spoke a language specific to the city until the 3rd century BC. This language, which is still not fully deciphered, is one of the Indo-European languages. Side was dominated by the Lydians in the first half of the 6th century BC and by the Persians in 547-546 BC. The city, which developed under the Persian rule, was surrendered to Alexander in 334 BC. After the death of Alexander Antigonus (323-304). Ptolemies (301-215).
